Don't be opportunists, Guico tells overpricing gas stations

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – Gov. Ramon Guico III on Friday called on gas stations selling fuels at excessive prices to stop being opportunists at a time of crisis.
In an interview, he said the provincial and local government units are monitoring fuel prices amid the spike due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
"We are preventing hoarding and unreasonable price hikes. They should wait for the mandate of the Department of Energy before implementing price increases. We encourage fuel retailers to cooperate. Don't be an opportunist during this time," he said in Filipino.
He warned erring gas stations that raising prices beyond those set by the Department of Energy may cause them to lose their business permits.
Guico encouraged residents to report via eGovPH (Report Gasoline Stations Concerns) or call the Consumer Welfare and Promotion Office at 02-88402267 or their LGUs.
"All gasoline stations are reminded to observe fair and reasonable fuel pricing. Stations found selling fuel at excessively high prices will be reported to the proper authorities for monitoring and investigation. Let us work together to ensure fair fuel prices for the public," the provincial government said.
"Violators may face penalties including hefty fines and the possible cancellation of their operating permits."
Tayug Mayor Tyrone Agabas issued a notice of violation to a gasoline station for failing to comply with the allowable pump prices of petroleum products set by the Department of Energy for the monitoring period from March 6 to March 9.
"Continued non-compliance thereof will constrain this Office, in the exercise of its regulatory authority, to initiate appropriate action for the possible suspension or revocation of your business permit," Agabas said.
