Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa is now facing criticism online after requesting to use the Senate Mansion in Baguio City despite his absence since November 2025.
In a letter, he stated that this is for his family to be used during the upcoming CSAFP Cup 2026.
In a Viber message to reporters, Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III confirmed that dela Rosa, who has kept a low profile in recent months, sent him a letter dated March 12 asking that his family be allowed to stay at the mansion from March 26 to 29.
The Senate Mansion typically serves as lodging for senators during official activities in Baguio City.
Sotto said he has forwarded the request to Senate Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza.
When asked if the request will be denied, Mendoza replied in the affirmative.
"The Senate mansion is undergoing repairs now and the policy is the family must be accompanied by the Senator," Mendoza added.
Netizens were quick to criticize the move, given that Dela Rosa has been largely absent from Senate sessions since November of last year and has stayed out of public view, even missing out on some of his legislative duties.
However, Sotto noted that this is not the first time dela Rosa has reached out since he started keeping a low profile and missing sessions in the Senate since November of last year.
Dela Rosa had also signed Resolution 343, approved by the Senate last Tuesday which calls on the executive branch to formulate a National Contingency Plan to address and recover from the effects of tensions in the Middle East. In addition, he signed the December-issued Blue Ribbon Committee Minority Report released by the minority bloc.
