Enjoy the last of the northeast monsoon’s cool winds while they’re here, as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the cool and dry season may soon be over.
In its weekly weather outlook, PAGASA said the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” will bring cloudy skies with light rains on Friday, March 13, over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.
Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, while the rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
While the amihan continues to be the prevailing weather system in the country, PAGASA also reported that Tropical Depression Nuri, previously monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility, has weakened into a low-pressure area and is unlikely to redevelop within the next 24 hours.
From Saturday to Tuesday, March 14 to 17, the amihan will continue to affect most parts of the country.
Luzon, Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga will generally have partly cloudy skies, but the eastern sections may experience cloudy conditions with isolated light rains.
Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will remain partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
By Wednesday to Friday, March 18 to 20, PAGASA said the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, will prevail across the country.
These may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in eastern areas.
PAGASA said the shift in wind pattern from northeasterlies to easterlies may also result in warmer weather conditions in the latter part of the week as the country gradually transitions away from the effects of amihan.
Based on PAGASA records, the amihan season for 2024–2025 officially ended on March 26, 2025.
