Woman assaulted by street dweller near MRT station in Mandaluyong
A woman was injured after she was assaulted by a street dweller for allegedly refusing to give him alms near the MRT Boni Station in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday, March 11.
According to the Mandaluyong City Police, the street dweller followed the woman and hit her at the back of her head, causing her to collapse on the ground.
As the suspect repeatedly punched and kicked the victim, a criminology student who witnessed the crime intervened and pacified the rampaging street dweller.
The suspect was quickly arrested by police and Philippine Coast Guard personnel stationed in the area while medical responders applied first aid to the woman before rushing her to a nearby hospital.
The police denied earlier claims on social media that the street dweller tried to rob the victim and has a mental problem, saying that the suspect was fully aware of his actions.
Authorities said the woman's family will file frustrated murder charges against the suspect, who is currently detained at the Mandaluyong City Police custodial facility.
