Tree falls, kills motorcycle rider in Muntinlupa

A motorcycle rider died when an acacia tree fell on him in Barangay Putatan, Muntinlupa on March 11. 

The Muntinlupa police reported that the accident happened at about 9:30 p.m. along the National Road near the Muntinlupa City hall. 

An acacia tree located on a sidewalk suddenly fell, directly hitting the northbound motorcycle rider and damaging two southbound vehicles. 

The victim was identified by the police as Ronnie Cruz, 36, stockman, a resident of BF Homes International Village, Las Piñas.  

He suffered injuries and was brought to the Medical Center Muntinlupa (MCM) where he was declared dead on arrival by an attending doctor, the police said in a report. 

The damaged vehicles were a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a dump truck driven by Cerilo Mangente, 57, a resident of South Greenheights, Barangay Putatan, Muntinlupa; and Benito Lim, 67, a resident of San Antonio, San Pedro, Laguna, respectively. 

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon immediately went to the area for inspection.

The accident caused heavy traffic as the area was temporarily cordoned off to allow personnel from the Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management to cut and remove the branches of the tree.
