Some P7.1-million worth of allegedly substandard computers were seized during a raid in a warehouse in Angeles City, Pampanga, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said Thursday.
In a statement, the CIDG said two employees of the warehouse were arrested for selling and storing computer units that were not compliant with the minimum labeling requirements for consumer products set by law.
Confiscated during the raid, conducted on Tuesday by CIDG Regional Field Unit 3, were 239 units of assorted laptop computers, 163 computer processing units, 141 desktop monitors, and two computer sets used as business service units.
According to the CIDG, the labels attached on the seized computers are not duly registered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), rendering the items substandard and illegal for trade under consumer protection standards.
Authorities are continuing efforts to locate the male owner of the establishment, who remains at large, as part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspects face charges for violating Republic Act No. 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
