DepEd warns public vs fake post claiming Thursday–Friday class suspension
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday, March 12, warned the public about a misleading social media post falsely claiming that classes are suspended every Thursday and Friday, stressing that the circulating information is fake news.
In an advisory to the public, DepEd clarified that no official policy or directive has been issued ordering a weekly suspension of classes in basic education schools.
“Fake news ang kumakalat na post sa social media tungkol sa umano’y suspensyon ng klase tuwing Huwebes at Biyernes (Posts circulating on social media claiming that classes are suspended every Thursday and Friday are fake news),” DepEd said, urging the public to remain vigilant against misinformation spreading online.

DepEd also reminded the public to verify information before sharing it, particularly announcements involving school schedules and policies that affect millions of learners nationwide.
“Muling pinaaalalahanan ng DepEd ang publiko na maging mapanuri sa mga impormasyong nakikita online (DepEd once again reminds the public to be discerning about the information they see online),” the agency said.
DepEd also warned users against following social media pages that spread false claims, encouraging the public to report accounts responsible for circulating misleading posts.
“Huwag i-follow ang mga page na nagpapakalat ng maling impormasyon at agad itong i-report (Do not follow pages that spread false information and report them immediately),” DepEd added.
For accurate updates and official announcements regarding the country’s basic education system, the department advised the public to rely only on the official social media accounts and communication channels of DepEd Philippines.
The reminder comes as misinformation related to school operations and policies continues to circulate online, prompting authorities to intensify public awareness about verifying sources before sharing posts.
DepEd reiterated that legitimate announcements on class suspensions, school policies, and education programs will always be released through its verified platforms and official statements.
