BACOLOD CITY – This highly-urbanized city will form a monitoring team to oversee all gas stations as fuel prices continue to rise due to the overseas conflict.
This was discussed during an alignment meeting led by City Administrator Mark Mayo attended by Mayor Greg Gasataya at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) on Wednesday, March 11, to establish key documentation procedures, including recording each station’s name and location, date and time of inspection, fuel supply reports or photos, observations of unusual purchasing patterns, and obtaining statements or clarifications from station management.
Gasataya said they tapped the Bacolod City Police Office to assist in monitoring and assured that the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is on top of the situation. "We don't want gas stations to take advantage of the problem,” he said.
He urged the public to report any illegal activity related to the matter to authorities.
Gasataya said that police and the city government will assess possible complaints and violations related to the Department of Energy (DOE)-authorized price adjustments.
Two dedicated teams will conduct supervision, composed of personnel from the BCPO, City Mayor's Office (CMO), City Legal Office (CLO), City Treasurer’s Office (CTO), Government Communication (GCOMM), and Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO).
Proper documentation is critical to ensuring fairness across all monitored establishments.
While 151 stations are currently in operation, records show a total of 164 gas stations registered in this city.
The initiative is intended to address ongoing fuel price increases linked to the Middle East crisis and ensure compliance with DOE guidelines on fair pricing.
Gasataya will meet the DOE on Thursday, March 12.
Police Col. Eugene Rebadomia, Bacolod police director, in a press briefing Wednesday, underscored the public’s cooperation and vigilance against gas stations that take advantage of the situation.
He cited a social media post showing one gas station that sells fuel over P100. “What is good about social media is that we have cyber patrolling that could monitor it,” he said.
Following the social media post, Rebadomia said that he immediately tasked policemen to visit the gasoline station and informed them about their violation, which eventually corrected the fuel price to P75.
He thanked the public for showing concern amid the current global oil crisis.
Rebadomia added that the DTI and DOE are conducting orientation to enable them to know their role in handling the situation and expressed concern about the possible increase of cases of looting and theft because of the current situation.
