A Singaporean national was named in a rape complaint filed by a Filipino woman before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office.
In her affidavit complaint that was filed last March 5 and subscribed and sworn to before Senior Assistant City Prosecutor Rina C. Alcantara, the complainant identified the respondent as Ricky Ravin Narwani.
It was not known immediately if the prosecutor’s office had conducted an evaluation of the complaint to determine if a preliminary investigation would be conducted or if the charge would be dismissed outright.
Narwani could not be contacted for comment as of posting time.
The complainant alleged that the rape was committed six years ago when she was 18 years old and reported it to the barangay immediately thereafter.
However, she said it took her six years to finally file the complaint before the prosecutor’s office due to her “fear and embarrassment.”
In her affidavit, the complainant said she met Narwani in 2019 through an online-chat website and their communications continued through another online platform that allowed users to chat through text, voice and video.
She said she became comfortable with Narwani because of his “polite and respectful manners” during their online chats.
Later, she said that Narwani informed her that he would visit the Philippines in January 2020 to meet her personally.
“I agreed to meet Ricky thinking that it would simply be a casual meeting and I did not expect anything bad would happen,” she said.
The complainant said that she met Narwani on Jan. 27, 2020 in a shopping mall in Makati City where they talked about their personal lives.
She alleged that Narwani even invited her to visit Singapore and to travel with him to other countries.
“I assumed that our friendship would develop into something good and positive because of the kindness he showed me,” she also said.
On the same day, she claimed that Narwani invited her to go to another mall in Pasay City to meet another friend.
Later, she alleged that Narwani invited her to have coffee at the lobby of a nearby condominium building where he rented a unit while in the Philippines.
She said that since she had started trusting Narwani, she agreed and they went to the building. And when they arrived in the building, she said that Narwani asked her to accompany him to his rented unit to check on his things.
Once inside the unit, the complainant alleged that Narwani immediately locked the door and started abusing her physically and sexually despite her protests.
When she was able to leave the condominium unit, she said that she reported the incident to the nearest barangay office.
She alleged in her affidavit: “I admit being extremely afraid of being judged by other people, especially by my family and close friends. I don’t want them to know that I became a rape victim because I went with a person I barely knew.”
She also admitted that she did not consult a physician for a medical examination due to fear and emotional trauma she experienced.
“I am now ready to identify the person subject of my complaint and to testify before the court,” she declared.
