CEBU CITY – Regular monitoring has been ordered in Danao City, northern Cebu province to prevent unabated price increases.
Mayor Nito Durano ordered the city's Price Monitoring Team and Business Permits and Licensing Office to regularly monitor the prices of basic commodities.
This way, consumers will be protected from abusive vendors, Durano said.
Durano signed an executive order (EO) that seeks the strict enforcement of the price tag requirement under Republic Act No. 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
Under the law, merchandise must have corresponding price tags. Prices must not be higher than the tag indicates.
The city warned that erring vendors will be issued with a show cause order and asked to explain why they should not be charged for violating RA 7394 and RA 7581 or the Price Act.
The EO stated that while price regulation is under the authority of national government agencies, the city will take proactive measures to ensure fair pricing and protect the welfare of consumers.
Danao residents were encouraged to immediately report cases of overpricing.
