The Caloocan City government has deployed 100 bicycles to personnel of the Public Safety and Traffic Management Department (PSTMD) and the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) as part of its efforts to implement energy conservation measures.

According to the city’s Public Information Office, the initiative is in line with Executive Order No. 007-26, which adopts the provisions of Presidential Memorandum Circular No. 114 directing government offices to reduce fuel and electricity consumption.

The bicycles will serve as an alternative mode of transportation for police and traffic personnel, helping reduce fuel use while maintaining mobility during field operations.

The city government said the measure also aims to prepare for possible fuel price increases and shortages due to the current global situation.

Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan encouraged city government employees to comply with the energy conservation measures and practice responsible energy use.

“Bilang mga public servant, may mandato po tayo na maging ehemplo para sa ating mga mamamayan sa wastong paggamit ng kuryente at enerhiya upang maibsan ang mga posibleng epekto ng digmaan sa Middle East,” Malapitan said (As public servants, we have a mandate to set an example for our citizens in the proper use of electricity and energy to help lessen the possible effects of the conflict in the Middle East),” Malapitan said.

He also urged personnel to consider alternative modes of transportation whenever possible to help reduce fuel consumption.

“Panawagan ko po sa lahat, huwag tayong mag-aksaya ng kuryente at gasolina at kung maaari, subukan natin ang iba pang paraan ng transportasyon papunta sa ating mga paroroonan,” he added (I urge everyone not to waste electricity and fuel and, if possible, to try other modes of transportation when going to our destinations),” the mayor added.
