Ninety Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory (OCJFD) persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were each granted with P2,400 training support fund by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) following the completion of their skills training in tile setting and hilot (wellness massage), the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) stated.
Provided by TESDA in partnership with Techvoc Skills Inc., the fund not only strengthens rehabilitation and livelihood opportunities but also recognizes the dedication and hard work of the PDL, highlighting the partners’ commitment to empowering them through meaningful skills programs.
QCJF warden Supt. Lourvina Abrazado assured that the facility will continue to promote personal growth, self-improvement and hope, equipping PDLs with the confidence and skills to rebuild their lives, reintegrate into society and truly advance women’s empowerment.
TESDA representative Alyssa Taroy along with Techvoc Skills Inc. personnel Wennievic Espares led the distribution and was facilitated by the Welfare and Development Section under Senior Insp. Elizabeth Regacho.
In ensuring that human rights are protected regardless of sexual identity, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) conducted regular visits at the QCJFD to determine the living conditions of the PDLs belonging to the LGBTQ group.
During the said activities, the DSWD spent time to understand the life experiences and recognize the unique needs and challenges faced by the LGBTQ community within the detention setting.
Abrazado noted that the initiative forms part of the committee’s continuing efforts to promote gender sensitivity, equality and human rights, with insights gathered serving as valuable input in crafting inclusive policies and legislation that ensure protection and empowerment for the LGBTQIA+ sector.
Abrazado said that the visits concluded through a guided facility tour, highlighting the QCJFD’s ongoing gender-responsive initiatives under the “No Woman Left Behind” program in partnership with the Quezon City Gender and Development Office.
