Surigao del Sur adopts 4-day work week for energy conservation

BUTUAN CITY – The provincial government of Surigao del Sur will begin implementing a four-day compressed work week this week, following national energy conservation directives, an official said Tuesday.
Gov. Johnny Pimentel issued Memorandum Order No. 28 mandating the new schedule in line with Memorandum Circular No. 114 signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. which adopts energy-saving protocols.
Under the order, the compressed work week will be observed every second and fourth week of the month, with employees working from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The schedule covers all provincial government personnel, including job order and contract-of-service workers.
Essential frontline offices will continue operating Monday through Friday to ensure uninterrupted public services. Exempted offices include the Finance Cluster, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Provincial Health Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office.
Meanwhile, the Agusan del Norte provincial government has also adopted a compressed schedule, with employees working Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Offices providing basic services, including provincial hospitals, are exempted. (PNA)
