The Quezon City government is working with national housing agencies to fast-track assistance and long-term housing solutions for families displaced by the recent fire along NIA Road in Barangay Pinyahan.
Mayor Joy Belmonte led an inspection of the fire-affected area on Monday, March 9, with officials from the National Housing Authority (NHA) and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.
The said agencies agreed to work together to develop safe and organized housing in the same area to ensure displaced residents can remain in the community they have long called home.
Mayor Belmonte assured affected families that the city government is advocating for their right to continue living in the city and in the neighborhoods they cherish.
More than 1,900 families lost their homes in the blaze, prompting the city government to coordinate closely with national agencies to secure both temporary shelter and permanent housing solutions.
The meeting gathered key local and national officials, including NHA General Manager Joeben Tai, District 4 Rep. Bong Suntay, Counselor Atty. Vincent Belmonte, Counselor Atty. Migs Suntay, Counselor Nanette Castelo-Daza, Counselor Egay Yap, and Counselor Imee Rillo.
Also present were city officials and agency representatives including Chief of Staff Rowena Macatao, Housing Community Development and Resettlement Department officer-in-charge Jojo Conejero, District 4 Action Officer Zandy Zacate, and City Legal Officer Carlo Austria.
Representatives from public safety agencies also attended the discussion, including Roberto Samillano Jr. of the Bureau of Fire Protection and Randy Glenn Silvio of the Quezon City Police District.
