President Marcos was "not pleased" and "got angry" when he learned about the alleged mistreatment of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Bahrain by an employee of the Migrant Workers Office.

Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro disclosed this, adding that Marcos has ordered the recall of the employee involved in dismissing the OFWs who were reportedly requesting for assistance amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

"Hindi po pinalagpas ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. ang pangyayari sa pagitan ni MWO Bahrain employee, Anthony Allermo at mga Overseas Filipino Workers doon (President Marcos Jr. did not let the incident between Migrant Workers Office–Bahrain employee Anthony Allermo and several Overseas Filipino Workers pass without action)," Castro said in a press briefing in New York on Monday, March 9 (New York time).

"Hindi po ito ikinatuwa ng Pangulo. Nagalit siya para sa ating mga OFWs dahil sa pagmamaltrato ng ilang public servant (The President was not pleased by what happened. He became angry on behalf of our OFWs because of the mistreatment by some public servants)," Castro added.

According to Castro, when the President saw the viral video showing the improper treatment of OFWs, he immediately ordered Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac "to investigate and take action regarding the incident."

"Sa ngayon ay ni-recall na si Allermo sa kanyang home office habang nagpapatuloy ang administrative investigation laban sa kanya (At present, Allermo has been recalled to his home office while the administrative investigation against him continues)," Castro said.

The Palace official reiterated that the President's directive is to help all Filipinos, particularly those currently caught in the situation in the Middle East.

"Ang isang public servant ay hindi po dapat na umabuso sa kanilang kapangyarihan. Walang dahilan ang pagyayabang o pagwawalang-bahala sa ating mga kababayan (A public servant must not abuse their power. There is no reason for arrogance or disregard toward our fellow Filipinos)," Castro stressed.

"Ang taong walang puso sa pagsisilbi ay walang puwang sa administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (A person who lacks compassion in public service has no place in the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.)," Castro added.

The Palace mouthpiece urged that any official unwilling or unable to serve fellow Filipinos with full commitment should immediately resign from their post.

"Kung hindi po niyo nais na magsilbi sa ating mga kababayan ng buong puso, kayo na po ang boluntaryong bumitaw sa inyong posisyon (If you are unwilling to serve our fellow Filipinos wholeheartedly, then you should voluntarily step down from your position)," she said.
