The distribution, conducted Monday morning, March 9, in coordination with the National Commission for Senior Citizens (NCSC), covered 3,703 elderly Manileños who reached the milestone ages of 80, 85, 90, and 95, each receiving a P10,000 cash incentive under the law.
Domagoso acknowledged the national government for implementing the expanded program, which now grants financial incentives to milestone-age senior citizens and not only to centenarians.
“Bagay na aking pinagpapasalamat kay President Bongbong Marcos sa pagpapatupad ng batas kung saan ang mga umabot ng 80, 85, 90, at 95 years old ay binibigyan ng P10,000 (This is something I am grateful to President Bongbong Marcos for the implementation of a law that grants P10,000 to those who reach the ages of 80, 85, 90, and 95),” the mayor said.
The Manila mayor noted that the initiative benefits thousands of elderly residents in the city and complements the local government's existing programs for senior citizens.
“Sa Maynila, nagsimula ’yan noong panahon natin noong 2019. Regular ang bigay natin sa senior citizens, P500 every month, at walang pinipili: mayaman, middle class o mahirap (In Manila, we started that during our term in 2019. We regularly give senior citizens P500 every month, and it is given to everyone—whether rich, middle class, or poor),” Domagoso said.
He added that the Manila local government continues to provide additional assistance to the elderly, including monthly allowances and nutrition support programs to help senior citizens maintain their health and well-being.
Domagoso also assured the city’s elderly residents that the local government will continue strengthening programs and services for them.
“Ang inyo namang Pamahalaang Lungsod ay hindi titigil na makagawa ng paraan para sa kapakinabangan ng ating mga lolo at lola. Gusto ko lang lagi na maramdaman ninyo na may gobyerno sa Lungsod ng Maynila na ipinagmamalasakit ang mga matatanda natin sa lungsod (Your city government will not stop finding ways to benefit our grandfathers and grandmothers. I want you to always feel that there is a government in the City of Manila that truly cares for our senior citizens),” he said.
