Imee Marcos wants executive to reveal 'full truth' on Duterte's arrest

Senator Imee Marcos filed on Tuesday, March 10, a resolution urging the executive department to reveal the "full truth" regarding the arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on March 11 last year.

The presidential sister filed Senate Resolution No. 340 to disclose the "full truth" regarding Duterte's arrest and the alleged coordination between government agencies and the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“Isang taon nang palaisipan ang nangyaring paglapastangan sa karapatan ng ating kapwa Pilipino (For a year now, the incident has been a puzzle regarding the violation of the rights of our fellow Filipino),” Marcos said.
“Dapat ilantad na ang buong katotohanan at panagutin ang mga lumabag sa ating konstitusyon (The full truth must be exposed, and those who violated our Constitution must be held accountable),” she added.
The senator emphasized the need to reveal whether certain government agencies collaborated with the ICC despite the Philippines’ withdrawal from the Rome Statute in 2019.
“Hindi nagtutugma ang kwento ng pamahalaan—malinaw na may nagsisinungaling (The government’s story doesn’t add up—clearly, someone is lying),” the senator asserted.
“Paulit-ulit sinasabi na wala nang ugnayan at hindi na makikipagtulungan ang Pilipinas sa ICC, pero inamin din na nakipag-usap si Remulla sa mga tauhan ng ICC (They repeatedly claim there is no more connection and that the Philippines will no longer cooperate with the ICC, yet it was admitted that Remulla engaged with ICC personnel),” she added.
Marcos further stated that it is crucial to restore the public’s trust in the country’s justice system and ensure that any action that could compromise the nation’s sovereignty does not happen again.
“Dapat walang Pilipinong matatakot sa sarili niyang gobyerno at magtatago sa dayuhan sa sarili niyang bansa (No Filipino should have to fear their own government and hide from foreigners in their own country),” Marcos said.
Lastly, she is urging the Executive Department to:
  • Immediately and fully disclose all communications, agreements, authorizations, requests, and operational directives relating to cooperation with the ICC in connection with the arrest and transfer of FPRRD;
  • Issue a categorical clarification of the official policy of the Philippine government regardign present and future cooperation with the ICC;
  • Acknowledge the violations of FPRRD's constitutional and statutory rights and hold accountable the officials responsible therefor;
  • Redress the continuing violations of FPRRD's rights by filing the appropriate representations to the ICC for his immediate return to the country; and
  • Refrain from bypassing the Philpiine Judiciary and engaging in unconstitutional acts in relation to future ICC arrest warrants, if any.
