The Department of Education (DepEd) has mobilized its mental health crisis response mechanisms following the death of a learner in Taguig City, expressing its deepest condolences to the student’s family and friends after the tragic incident linked to a personal and sensitive situation.

In a statement issued on March 9, DepEd said it immediately activated its mental health crisis response mechanisms to support the affected school community.

“DepEd recognizes that this incident is a sensitive issue and underscores the importance of providing timely interventions for learners and teachers who may be experiencing mental health challenges,” the statement read.

Members of the agency’s Executive Committee (ExeCom) also personally visited the school to monitor the situation and ensure that immediate assistance and psychological support were available for students, teachers, and staff.

DepEd said it also coordinated with its concerned field office to gather additional information and determine what further assistance can be extended to the school and those directly affected by the incident.

Meanwhile, the office of Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, together with local authorities, has extended assistance and support to the learner’s family and the broader school community.

DepEd acknowledged the sensitivity of the situation and emphasized the importance of timely mental health interventions for learners and educators who may be experiencing emotional distress.

While the agency declined to disclose specific details of the incident out of respect for the grieving family, it reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening mental health programs in schools and ensuring that learning environments remain safe, supportive, and responsive to students’ well-being.

“While DepEd will not provide specific details of the incident out of respect for the grieving family of the learner, rest assured that the Department remains committed to strengthening and implementing mental health programs to ensure that our schools remain safe and supportive environments for our learners,” DepEd said.

DepEd also appealed to the public to “respect the privacy of the individuals involved and the school community during this difficult time.”
