Alternergy, ABC Energy advance major wind projects after PCC clearance
Renewable energy (RE) firm Alternergy Holdings Corp. and its partner ABC Energy Inc. are set to finish the Tanay and Alabat wind power projects after receiving clearance from the antitrust watchdog.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) on Tuesday, March 10, Alternergy announced that ABC Energy’s 40-percent equity stake in the two wind units has been approved by the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC), allowing it to proceed with its investment.
This permits Alternergy to retain 60-percent ownership in the 128-megawatt (MW) Tanay wind project and 64-MW Alabat wind project.
Gerry P. Magbanua, Alternergy president, lauded the PCC’s nod to let them proceed with the collaboration that will help move the projects toward commercial operations.
“The PCC clearance affirms the partnership between Alternergy and ABC Energy as aboveboard, transparent, and free of any unfair market manipulation or practices,” he said.
Paul B. Juat, ABC Energy president, added, “This is our single largest investment to date, and we are looking forward to this partnership as we accelerate ABC Group’s own green energy initiatives.”
To recall, the two firms formalized a partnership in October 2025 through a ₱2.4-billion deal from ABC Energy, after it divested its coal power stake in Palm Concepcion Power Corp.
Alabat and Tanay wind projects are expected to be completed sometime this year.
Recently, the company installed its first eight-megawatt (MW) wind turbine generator (WTG) for Alabat wind project, said to be the world’s largest commercial WTG outside of China.
Supplied by Envision Energy, the technology was designed to resist typhoon winds, and several more turbines will be installed in the coming weeks, according to Knud Hedeager, president of Alternergy Wind Holdings Corp. (AWHC).
The eight WTGs, with an overall 64-MW capacity, will be placed in the mountains of Alabat town in Quezon province, facing the Pacific Ocean.
“This initial success with the Alabat wind power project reinforces our vision for a future powered by renewables. We are just getting started, and this is a big step forward,” Hedeager said.
The RE firm is set to finish four new power projects this year with a combined capacity of 225 MW.
