The tuk-tuk driver involved in a viral road rage incident in Chinatown, Binondo, on March 6, has surrendered to authorities under the Manila Police District’s Oplan Pagtugis.
The driver turned himself in on Sunday, March 8, to the Gandara Police Community Precinct (PCP) of MPD Station 11 after police launched an operation to identify the suspect seen in circulating CCTV footage.
According to CCTV footage from Barangay 289, District 3, the incident began when a sport utility vehicle (SUV) reportedly could not pass through a street because a yellow tuk-tuk was blocking the road.
The SUV driver then repeatedly sounded the horn, which barangay officials said may have angered the tuk-tuk driver.
Instead of letting the matter pass, the tuk-tuk driver allegedly chased the SUV along nearby streets in Binondo.
The driver reportedly caught up with the vehicle, blocked its path, and confronted the SUV’s female driver while shouting insults.
Maj. John Peter Fallar, commander of the Gandara PCP, said he immediately ordered an operation to identify the driver of the yellow tuk-tuk after learning about the incident.
As the video gained traction online, the driver eventually surrendered to authorities while police were conducting Oplan Pagtugis operations to locate him.
The female SUV driver also went to the police station, where both parties presented their accounts of the incident.
According to Fallar, the SUV driver is preparing to file appropriate charges in connection with the road rage incident.
Police reminded motorists passing through the Chinatown area to remain calm and exercise patience while driving.
“Pakiusap po sa ating mga kababayan na dumadako dito sa Chinatown Binondo na iwasan ang init ng ulo sa kalsada. Magbaon po tayo ng mahabang pasensya at pag-unawa sa kapwa (We appeal to our fellow citizens who pass through Chinatown Binondo to avoid losing their temper on the road. Let us carry patience and understanding toward others),” Fallar said.
Authorities added that the Manila Police District will continue to strengthen police visibility and coordination with barangay officials to maintain order and safety in the area.
