FFCCCII launches barrio schools TikTok contest
The Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) has launched a nationwide video competition on TikTok aimed at highlighting the legacy and impact of its decades-long rural school-building initiative, Operation: Barrio Schools.
The contest invites Filipinos to create short-form videos showcasing how the project—launched in 1961—has helped improve access to education in rural communities across the country. According to FFCCCII, the initiative has led to the construction and donation of more than 6,500 public school buildings nationwide, making it the largest and longest-running private-sector school-building program in the Philippines.
FFCCCII president Victor Lim said the competition aims to bring the organization’s philanthropic legacy to a younger audience while highlighting the role of education in community development.
“Operation: Barrio Schools is a testament to the enduring philanthropy tradition of the Filipino-Chinese community in promoting better public education and inclusive national economic development,” Lim said. “Through this TikTok competition, we hope to engage the younger generation, raise awareness about this decades-long project, and showcase how these school buildings have become symbols of hope and progress in rural communities.”
The federation, which represents more than 170 Filipino-Chinese chambers of commerce across the Philippines, said the initiative also serves as a platform to connect its long-standing civic work with modern digital storytelling.
The TikTok video competition offers a total of ₱850,000 in cash prizes, including a ₱120,000 grand prize, which will be distributed across different categories. Participants may join either Category A, titled #MyFFCCCIIBarrioSchoolJourney, or Category B, #TheFFCCCIIBarrioSchoolsStory.
The contest is open to Filipinos nationwide aged 13 years old and above. Participants are required to create a one- to two-minute vertical TikTok video with English subtitles that features an experience, impact story, or topic related to the FFCCCII Barrio Schools project. Entries must first be uploaded privately before participants register through the official QR code provided by FFCCCII.
Contestants must also tag @ffcccii.official and use the official hashtag #FFCCCIIBarrioSchools. Videos must be set to public during the official posting period from May 5 to May 15, 2026, which is also the deadline for submissions.
FFCCCII said the competition aims to gather stories from communities, alumni, and supporters who have witnessed firsthand how the donated school buildings have improved learning conditions in underserved areas.
Since its launch more than six decades ago, Operation: Barrio Schools has remained one of FFCCCII’s flagship civic initiatives, supporting public education infrastructure in remote and underserved communities across the Philippines.
