Baguio vows sanctions vs fuel sellers who overprice, hoard

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Benjamin Magalong on Monday warned fuel sellers in the city of sanctions if they raise prices without authority or hoard supplies.
“Subukan nila na magtaas at huhulihin namin sila agad. Ganun lang iyon, lalo na ang nagho-hoard (We will immediately apprehend them if they increase prices of fuel, especially if they hoard),” Magalong told reporters in an interview.
He said those caught hoarding could also face cancellation of their business permits, which would bar them from operating in the city.
The mayor issued the warning following reports that some gas stations raised prices despite the Department of Energy (DOE) order prohibiting unscheduled price increases.
However, Magalong said the city supports gas stations limiting the amount of fuel each customer can buy.
“Kasi gusto nila makinabang lahat kaya limited ang binibigay nila na gasoline. We are expecting na magkakaroon talaga ng shortage kasi wala ng nakakarating na fuel, kukulangin talaga kaya maganda na hati-hatiin ang meron tayo para meron ang lahat (They limit the gasoline sold to each person so everyone can benefit. We really expect shortage because no new fuel supplies are arriving),” he added.
He lauded gas station operators for helping ensure that the limited supply is shared.
Magalong said the city will meet with the local price control council and fuel retailers to ensure public safety and supply security. (PNA)
