Eleven passengers were injured when a passenger jeepney turned on its side in Sitio Libsong, Barangay Guinguinabang, Lacub, Abra, on Sunday, March 8.
The Lacub Municipal Police Station said the jeepney with 14 people on board – 12 passengers, one driver, and one conductor – was on its way to Poblacion, Lacub from Bangued, Abra when the accident happened.
“Based on our initial investigation, the jeepney experienced engine problem while climbing a steep and curved section of the road and the driver lost control, possibly causing it to rapidly reverse and overturn,” said Police Corporal Camille Malsino of the Lacub MPS.
Eleven passengers, including five children, were injured. They were given first aid and brought to the Abra Provincial Hospital in Bangued for further treatment.
The 59-year-old jeepney driver, a resident of Licuan-Baay, Abra, and conductor were not injured but the driver suffered severe nervousness after the incident.
Relatives of the injured have expressed their willingness to settle the case and will not file charges against the driver. He is currently in the custody of the Lacub MPS for proper disposition.
