Road rage incident in Binondo: Tuk-tuk driver chases, blocks SUV
A road rage incident involving a tuk-tuk, or electric tricycle, and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) was caught on CCTV in the Chinatown district of Manila, prompting authorities to review footage to identify the driver involved.
The incident occurred around 3:25 p.m. on Friday, March 6, in Binondo, according to barangay officials.
Based on CCTV footage from Barangay 289, District 3, the confrontation reportedly began when the SUV driver was unable to pass because the tuk-tuk was blocking the road. The SUV driver then repeatedly sounded his horn.
Barangay Kagawad Nelson Ty said the repeated honking may have angered the tuk-tuk driver, who allegedly turned around and began chasing the SUV along streets in the Chinatown area.
The tuk-tuk driver eventually caught up with the vehicle near the Shoppers Mart area, where he allegedly blocked the SUV and confronted its occupants while shouting and hurling insults.
The situation reportedly escalated when the tuk-tuk again intercepted the SUV near a bridge in the area before the vehicles eventually went their separate ways.
Barangay officials said the tuk-tuk involved was yellow but did not appear to have a visible plate number or identifying markings, making it difficult to immediately determine the driver’s identity.
The SUV driver has reportedly filed a complaint with the police, while authorities continue reviewing CCTV footage from nearby establishments to track down the tuk-tuk driver and determine possible violations stemming from the road rage incident.
