A Holy mass was held at the fire-hit compound along NIA Road in Barangay Pinyahan on Sunday, March 8, to offer prayers and support for families displaced by the blaze.
The Mass was led by Father Robert Reyes, widely known as the “running priest,” who previously served as the parish priest of San Isidro Labrador Parish.
The mass was conducted near a chapel that survived the fire, drawing residents and volunteers gathered in the area.
According to the Quezon City government, the fire affected 1,926 families or about 6,020 individuals, many of whom are now temporarily staying in evacuation centers across the city.
Among the evacuation sites designated for the displaced residents are Flora Ylagan High School, Pinyahan Covered Court, San Isidro Labrador Parish, NIA Covered Court, the NIA Building, Pinyahan Elementary School, the NAPOCOR Office, and the NHA Balik Probinsiya Covered Court at Manila Seedling.
The local government continues to provide support and services to evacuees through various departments.
To maintain sanitation in the evacuation centers, the Department of Sanitation and Cleanup Works of Quezon City (DSQC) continues waste collection operations in the areas where evacuees are staying.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO) deployed mobile shower units at the NIA Building and Manila Seedling to provide bathing facilities for displaced residents.
Government agencies have also extended aid to the victims, with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) distributing assistance to families affected by the fire.
The Quezon City government also encouraged those who wish to help to donate items such as new or unused clothing, baby diapers, food packs, hygiene kits, and pet food, which can be turned over to Social Services Development Department teams stationed at evacuation centers.
