BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod Veterinary Office (BVO) reminded people to ensure the safety of their pets during emergencies following the death of a dog rescued from a recent residential fire in Barangay 2 here.
The BVO said a medium-sized female dog rescued by firefighters died despite receiving immediate medical care.
“This is a sad reminder of how devastating fire incidents can be – not only for people, but also for the animals who depend on us,” they said in a Facebook post.
The BVO reported that the dog sustained burns that appeared to be superficial. First aid was administered immediately and upon arrival at the BVO facility, her injuries were carefully treated but she later passed away.
The dog, which had brown fur, was estimated to be around one-to two-years-old based on dental examination.
The BVO said that animals rescued from fires may suffer delayed complications from smoke inhalation and extreme stress which may not be immediately visible.
They thanked firefighters who rescued the animal and ensured she received prompt medical attention.
The fire left 32 families or 109 individuals homeless and 29 houses were destroyed.
