Eleven Filipinos in Iran were safely evacuated to Turkey amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
"The 11 overseas Filipinos are scheduled to depart Türkiye for the Philippines in the coming days," the DFA said on Sunday, March 8.
The DFA gave an assurance that the Philippine Embassy in Tehran stands ready to assist around 800 Filipinos currently residing in Iran, who may request to be repatriated.
"The DFA, through the Philippine Embassy in Tehran, remains committed to assisting the estimated 800 Filipinos currently residing in Iran who may wish to return to the Philippines," the DFA said.
Filipinos seeking assistance are advised to contact the embassy through the contact numbers and official channels posted on its website and social media pages, the DFA said.
According to the DFA, the evacuation of the Filipino nationals was made possible through the coordination between the Philippine embassies in Tehran, Iran, and Ankara, Turkey.
It added that the evacuation took place after the disbursement of the DFA’s Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Fund.
"The DFA likewise extends its gratitude to the governments of Türkiye and Iran for their invaluable assistance in facilitating the safe passage of Filipinos overseas," the department said.
