Adamson soared past University of Santo Tomas, 27-25, 25-22, 25-12, to secure a bounce-back win in the UAAP Season 88 Women's Volleyball Tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, March 7.
After overcoming the extended first canto, Shai Nitura and Frances Mordi fired from all angles to disrupt the Golden Tigresses’ defense, particularly in the third where they tore the game apart.
Adamson’s convincing victory put the JP Yude-mentored crew back in the winning track as it now hiked its slate to 3-2, while UST fell to 2-3.
“Lahat naman sila ay nagcontribute and sabi ko lang, follow the instruction so that hindi kami magkakaiba ng sistema,” said Adamson head coach JP Yude. "Ang instruction ko lang sa kanila nung nakuha namin yung dalawang set is to be more locked in."
Nitura, last year’s Rookie of the Year, dazzled with 22 points off 19 attacks and three blocks that went with three excellent digs and six excellent receptions, while Mordi chipped in 20 points with 10 receptions and one dig.
“We never expect anything sa game but to try to win and play to win,” said Nitura. "This is the result of what we did and thank you Lord, we’ve been working for this [and] talagang tinatiyaga namin every training."
Fhei Sagaysay also stood out with 12 excellent sets and six points, five coming from the ace department. Lhouiz Tuddao and Marie Joy Aseo also added six points each for Adamson, which challenges No. 1 De La Salle (5-0) this Wednesday, March 11.
Reg Jurado uncorked 18 points, while Avril Bron and Angge Poyos, who struggled offensively, posted 10 and five points, respectively.
UST looks to clinch a rebound win against University of the Philippines (3-1) also Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
