DOLE readies jobs, training for OFWs hit by Middle East crisis

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is preparing jobs and training programs for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who may be displaced or repatriated amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
In a statement, the labor department said it is coordinating closely with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
The agencies are monitoring the situation and gathering data on affected OFWs, including those already repatriated or with disrupted deployment.
This information will allow the government to provide employment and reintegration support once the workers return to the Philippines.
“Through our nationwide Public Employment Service Offices (PESOS), we will ensure that all affected OFWs are immediately profiled, skills-assessed, and registered in the PESO Employment Information System for targeted job matching based on their age, education and occupational background,” the DOLE said.
“Further, affected workers will received employment counselling services and be referred to employment opportunities, including through upcoming job fairs and employer linkages facilitated through DOLE's employment services network,” it added.
For those who need immediate income support, emergency employment and livelihood assistance will be available through DOLE’s livelihood programs.
Referrals to partner agencies will also be provided to help workers pursue entrepreneurship or microenterprise development.
Workers who need to shift to new industries or occupations will be assisted through reskilling and career development programs under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The programs include skills training, assessment, and certification.
Professional workers may access support through the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) caravans, which provide professional licensing, credential verification, and facilitation of professional practice in the Philippines.
DOLE will tailor these programs to the needs and preferences of affected OFWs to ensure they receive proper assistance while overseas employment conditions stabilize.
