The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the University of the Philippines (UP) broke ground on a rental housing project aimed at low-income housing for the university community.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling and UP President Angelo Jimenez on Friday led the groundbreaking ceremony at the Paciano Rizal site in Bay, Laguna.
It marks the first housing project at the university in 45 years.
“Following the directive of President Marcos Jr., the Expanded 4PH continues to grow, so that we can help more Filipinos with their need for decent, safe, and affordable housing,” Aliling said.
“The purpose of this rental housing project is to provide a more dignified living for our fellow citizens who are most in need,” he added.
The project is expected to benefit around 1,000 low-income employees, students, and nearby informal settler families.
This marks the first campus housing project since the 1980s during the administration of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
