'Amihan' affecting Northern Luzon, easterlies prevailing over rest of country — PAGASA
The northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” continues to affect Northern Luzon, while the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, prevail over the rest of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, March 7.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said Batanes and Babuyan Islands are expected to experience cloudy skies with a chance of rainfall due to the amihan.
Mainland Cagayan and Apayao are likely to see cloudy skies with light rainfall, while Ilocos Region, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening, as the easterlies prevail.
PAGASA is also monitoring a cluster of clouds in the eastern part of Mindanao.
The weather bureau said the system has not yet developed into a low-pressure area but will continue to observe its progress for possible intensification.
De la Cruz-Galicia also said a gale warning is in effect over the waters surrounding Batanes and Babuyan Islands due to the amihan, making sea travel risky, especially for small vessels.
