CANDON CITY — While the bustling city south of the Ilocos Region is glittering with PBA stars, some players won’t be seeing action in the North and South All-Star game on Sunday, March 8.
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial confirmed that South All-Star members Scottie Thompson of Barangay Ginebra and RR Pogoy of TNT are skipping the festivities
Although in attendance in Candon City, Magnolia’s Zav Lucero and San Miguel’s Jericho Cruz are also not suiting up for the North All-Stars.
Pogoy isn’t participating as he needs to attend to some personal matters while Thompson, Lucero and Cruz won’t be available due to respective injuries.
The North and South All-Stars will be coached by San Miguel mentor Leo Austria and TNT tactician Chot Reyes, respectively.
Marcial said the league was no longer able to pick a substitute for the players as the jerseys have already been made.
“Hindi na tayo nakapili ng substitute kasi late na sila nakapagsabi. Three days before (All-Star) na so yung mga jerseys nagawa na,” explained Marcial.
Expected to lead the charge for the North team are Japeth Aguilar, Calvin Abueva and Juan Gomez de Liano. Also part of the team are CJ Perez, Stephen Holt, Justine Baltazar, Adrian Nocum, Chris Newsome, CJ Cansino, Gian Mamuyac, Justin Arana and Don Trollano.
June Mar Fajardo headlines the South team, alongside RJ Abarrientos, Calvin Oftana, Robert Bolick, RR Pogoy, JB Bahio, Leonard Santillan, Alec Stockton, Caelan Tiongson and Rey Nambatac.
