President Marcos spoke with United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to express solidarity with the Emirati people amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Marcos conveyed his support to the UAE leadership during the call on Friday, March 6.
The President also expressed confidence in the UAE government’s ability to ensure the safety of residents, including the nearly one million Filipinos living in the country.
Marcos likewise voiced hope that hostilities in the region would soon end and that the situation would return to normal.
The call came as several countries in the Middle East remain on heightened alert following exchanges of attacks involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
The UAE hosts one of the largest Filipino communities abroad, with many working in sectors such as healthcare, construction, hospitality, and household services.
President Marcos and President Mohamed met during Marcos’ working visit to the UAE in January this year. During their meeting, the two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation in the economy, trade, and sustainability.
Meanwhile, the President is set to deliver the Philippines’ call for restraint and adherence to international law amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East during his upcoming visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York City next week.
