Rain or Shine captain Gian Mamuyac is confident that import Jaylen Johnson can fare squarely even against the high-caliber and towering reinforcements of the other teams in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.

While the 6-foot-9 import is giving up a few inches especially compared to the 7-foot-3 center Bol Bol of TNT and not boasting glittering credentials like Kylor Kelly, who, like Bol, played in the NBA, Mamuyac believes Johnson is exactly what the doctor ordered to boost their bid in the mid-season conference.

According to Mamuyac, Johnson’s ability to involve his teammates and make them look better is one of the strongest facets of his game.

“Usually, pag import conference, ang import medyo nagiging ball dominant. Pero ito, si Jalen, nakakapaglaro kami as a team. Yung system namin, natatakbo namin,” Mamuyac said of 

“Very unselfish kasi si Jalen. So, hindi siya yung magpipilit. Lagi siyang nag-i-involve ng teammates niya, which I think is to our advantage. Kasi siyempre, as a team mo kami babantayan,” he added.

With Rain or Shine boasting talents like Mamuyac, Adrian Nocum, Leonard Santillan and Caelan Tiongson, having an import that can work around Guiao’s equal opportunity system would bode well to the team.

For one, Johnson also seemed to be very capable not just on the offensive but also on the defensive end.

“With him, bigla nalang nag-i-integrate, or bigla nalang kumuha siya ng puntos from our system. So, which is good. Hindi namin kailangan pilitin sa kanya yung bola, tapos makikreate siya for us,” he added.
