ZAMBOANGA CITY – The body of MV Trisha Kerstin 3 Captain Sonie Secuban has been recovered, authorities said, more than a month after the boat sank on Jan. 26.

The Regional Forensic Unit of the Police Regional Office-9 reported the discovery during a meeting with Mayor Khymer Olaso on Thursday, March 5.

Deoxyribonucleic acid tests conducted on tissue samples from Cadaver 004 matched Secuban's biological son, yielding a 99 percent match.

Results also showed a match with Secuban's brother, police said.

Secuban’s cadaver was in cold storage for nearly a month due to the advanced state of decomposition.

The recovery of Secuban’s body was the subject of numerous speculations following the tragedy.

In a congressional hearing, Akbayan party-list Rep. Dadah Kiram Ismullah asked the National Bureau of Investigation to locate Secuban.
