BACOLOD City fire victims receive aid from Rep. Albee Benitez. (FB)
BACOLOD CITY – Barangay 2 here is appealing for assistance for victims of a fire on Thursday in Purok Lampirong that left 32 families or 109 individuals homeless.
The barangay, in a Facebook post, said affected residents need clothes, blankets, food and drinking water, sleeping mats, toiletries and hygiene kits, and other relief goods.
Donations may be delivered at the barangay hall.
The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) said that some fire victims opted to stay in the houses of their friends, relatives, or family members.
The city government has provided assistance for displaced residents. Bacolod Rep. Albee Benitez has also extended assistance to displaced families.
The fire was the first this Fire Prevention Month here. Twenty-nine houses were razed. Arson investigators said the fire was allegedly triggered by a child playing with a lighter and candle.
