CAVITE – The local government unit (LGU) of Rosario is set to recognize two of its residents for their honesty after they returned money and valuables they had found or received by mistake.
Rosario Public Information Officer Sid Samaniego told the Manila Bulletin that the two men, a tricycle driver and a plumber, serve as an inspiration to their community, reminding them that true wealth is not measured by money, but by honesty and goodwill.
On March 3, tricycle driver Michael Oliverio was on the road when he noticed a black bag on the street.
Upon opening the bag, he found P28,000 in cash, two cell phones, and ATM cards inside.
Oliverio immediately reported the incident to Muzon-II Barangay Captain Denmark Baquiran, who helped locate the bag’s owner and facilitated its return.
In a separate incident on March 2, plumber Jhe Juanino Rodriguez received a P2,000 electronic money transfer to his GCash account.
Afterwards, he received a message from the sender, saying that the transfer had been made by mistake, and explained that the money was intended to buy medicine for her grandmother.
Rodriguez promptly returned the full amount. He posted about the incident on social media, which quickly drew praise and inspired netizens.
Samaniego said the LGU will be formally recognizing the honesty of Oliverio and Rodriguez at the municipal government’s flag-raising ceremony on Monday, March 9.
