Davao City marks 23rd anniversary of Sasa airport bombing

DAVAO CITY – Acting Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II urged the people to remain alert and united in protecting the community during the 23rd anniversary of the 2003 Sasa Old Airport bombing here on Wednesday afternoon, March 4.
The commemoration paid tribute to the victims of the attack and highlighted Davao’s continuing commitment to public safety, peace, and community vigilance.
In a message delivered during the program, Duterte emphasized the importance of peace and order in Davao City. He added that working together to protect the community is essential to keeping the city safe and secure for everyone.
Duterte said the theme of the 89th Araw ng Dabaw, “Dabawenyo Ko: Nilambo. Nagkahiusa,” serves as a reminder for residents to cooperate, stay vigilant, and continue observing the city’s culture of security.
“Together, let us remember the lives that were lost here 23 years ago and honor their memory by remaining united in purpose and firm in our commitment to maintain peace and order in the city,” Duterte said.
Also in attendance were Davao City officials, the security sector, and relatives of the victims.
The annual commemoration forms part of the city’s continuing initiatives to honor those who died in the attack while strengthening public awareness on unity, vigilance, and the preservation of peace.
