A man was successfully rescued after he climbed on top of the LRT-2 Antipolo Station on Thursday night, March 5, Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares said.
According to Ynares, the man is a resident of Manggahan, Pasig, and was a former convict who was imprisoned in Muntinlupa for a crime he said he didn't commit.
He added the victim was experiencing difficulties in finding a job due to his criminal record. He was also reportedly suffering from a mental illness, which prompted him to climb on top of the station.
Following hours of negotiation with rescuers and city government personnel of Antipolo, Pasig, and Quezon City, the man was eventually persuaded to voluntarily climb down the station, ending the incident at around 8 p.m.
"Pinatingan na rin natin sya sa ating mga doktor sa ating ospital upang matiyak na nasa maayos syang kalagayan (We have also had him checked on by our doctors to ensure he is in good condition)," the mayor said, adding that the victim is now with his family.
The man will be turned over to the Pasig City government for additional interventions and monitoring.
