Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Joeben Tai for providing financial assistance to families affected by the recent fire in Intramuros.
The fire, allegedly triggered by a jealous husband, left two people dead, displaced around 532 families, and caused an estimated P1.5 million in damage in the densely populated Maisan area of Intramuros on Feb. 25.
Through the NHA’s Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP), all the affected families temporarily residing at the Delpan Evacuation Center received P30,000 cash aid each.
“Personally, I told them that the city government will continue to collaborate with the national government, whoever is in office. When local and national efforts unite, even across party lines, the real beneficiaries are the people,” the mayor said.
The mayor emphasized the importance of government solidarity during disasters, noting that coordinated efforts between city and national authorities significantly ease the burdens of affected residents.
The assistance comes after the recent fire that displaced hundreds of families, highlighting the critical role of emergency support programs like EHAP in helping communities recover.
The distribution was personally supervised by Domagoso and NHA officials to ensure timely support for the victims.
