The University of Perpetual Help System Dalta men’s and women’s teams try to maintain their current position for a chance at securing a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals of their respective divisions in the NCAA Season 101 volleyball tournaments.
The Altas, sporting an 8-3 card at No. 2 in Group A, hope to keep their slate or perhaps grab the solo lead when they take on their last assignments against the San Sebastian Stags (Friday, March 6) and the Mapua Cardinals (March 8).
If Perpetual wins one of its last two matches, it would earn the Altas a quarters bonus that will be given to Top Two squads in both Brackets A and B.
This would be a great improvement for the winningest school in the men’s side with 14 overall titles after it missed last year’s Final Four with a 10-8, sixth-place finish in the centennial season of the grand old league.
The Altas currently sit behind the College of St. Benilde Blazers (8-3) and ahead of pursuers Mapua (6-5), and play-in squads in San Sebastian (5-7), and Jose Rizal University (1-11).
Reigning champion Arellano is on top of Group B with a 7-4 tally, followed by Emilio Aguinaldo College (7-4) and San Beda (7-5). Letran (6-5) and Lyceum (2-10) are relegated to play-in games.
Meanwhile, the Lady Altas are also heading into their last two tasks in the Lady Stags and the Lady Cardinals on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Unlike their male counterparts, Perpetual is already assured of a twice-to-beat edge in the quarters as they hold a 9-2 record at No. 1 in Group A.
The Lady Altas are poised to clinch the top seed with reigning titlist Benilde (8-3) is its only closest rival for the said position.
