Three individuals were arrested following a shooting incident in Barangay Holy Spirit on Wednesday night, March 4, after police responded to an Emergency 911 call.
According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), personnel from Holy Spirit Police Station 14 immediately responded after the Station Tactical Operations Center received a report at around 10:40 p.m. about a shooting along Kaligtasan Extension Street.
While patrolling the area, responding officers spotted a shirtless man, later identified as alias “Christopher,” 30, a resident of Barangay Holy Spirit, attempting to flee toward an alley along Zuzuarregui Street.
The suspect, who had visible bloodstains on his body, was pursued and apprehended.
Police recovered a .45-caliber pistol from Christopher during a body frisk.
He failed to present documents for the firearm and was arrested.
Authorities also brought him to the Quezon City General Hospital after finding wounds on his lower back and head.
Shortly after his arrest, two other men -- alias “Cecilio,” 64, and “Wenceslao,” 42, both residents of the same barangay -- arrived at the scene aboard a motorcycle.
During a confrontation, Wenceslao allegedly attempted to assault Christopher but was quickly restrained by officers.
A frisk later yielded a bolo measuring about 18 inches, leading to his arrest.
Meanwhile, Cecilio tried to escape on his motorcycle while being escorted to the police station, prompting a brief chase along Kaligtasan Extension Street. He was later cornered and arrested.
Recovered from Cecilio were a high-capacity .45-caliber pistol, a magazine loaded with nine rounds of ammunition, and a bulletproof vest with holster.
He also failed to present legal documents for the firearm.
Initial investigation revealed that the three men were involved in a heated altercation prior to the incident.
Cecilio allegedly struck Christopher several times on the head with a firearm, while Wenceslao stabbed him in the back with a bolo.
During the struggle, Christopher reportedly managed to grab the gun and fired several shots at the two men.
Authorities recovered a live .45-caliber round, a fired cartridge case, and a deformed bullet during an ocular inspection at the crime scene.
Police records also showed that Christopher has previous cases including alarms and scandals and violation of the Omnibus Election Code in 2019, attempted parricide in 2020, and theft in 2021.
Cecilio, meanwhile, previously faced a case for reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property in 2022.
Police said charges for attempted homicide and violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, are being prepared against the suspects before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, while Wenceslao will also face a charge for attempted murder.
