DAVAO CITY – Officials of Cotabato province have condemned the broad daylight ambush of a retired police officer and his companion in Datu Montawal town in Maguindanao del Sur province on Tuesday, March 3.
Police identified the victims as retired Police Major Elias Dandan and Raymund Bioy.
Investigation said the victims were onboard a pickup truck when they were shot by unidentified gunmen. They died on the spot due to multiple bullet wounds.
Dandan was active in the community and provided inputs to maintain peace and order in the municipality. The victim was chief of police in Matalam and Pikit. He was also known for his relentless anti-drug operations that led to the arrest of notorious pushers.
Pikit Mayor Muhyryn Sultan-Casi and Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Mendoza condemned the killing and called for a deeper probe of the incident. They have condoled with the families of the victims.
Mendoza said this violence is not acceptable and imperils peace and order in the community. “Violence has no place in our society,” she added.
