A suspected “salisi” thief from Tondo was arrested after allegedly stealing cash from four separate stores in Baseco, Port Area, Manila, police said.
Personnel of the Manila Police District (MPD) Baseco Police Station 13, led by Lt. Colonel Rommel Anicete, apprehended the suspect, a former delivery rider, following complaints from affected store owners.
According to police reports, the suspect targeted four different small retail shops in the Baseco area and managed to cart away cash earnings from the stores through the “salisi” modus.
Through the swift response of PS13 officers, in coordination with alert barangay officials, the suspect was tracked down and arrested shortly after the incidents.
Authorities said the suspect later disclosed how he executed his modus against store owners in the area, taking advantage of brief moments when cash boxes were left unattended.
Following the arrest, Anicete personally revisited the four affected stores to assess the incidents and provide safety reminders to business owners.
He shared practical tips to prevent similar crimes, emphasizing vigilance and proper cash handling to deter would-be thieves.
Residents and local entrepreneurs expressed gratitude to the Baseco police for their quick action and visible presence in the community, saying they felt reassured by the prompt response.
The suspect is currently detained at the MPD Baseco Police Station 13 and is facing theft-related charges.
