Las Piñas BFP leads fire prevention month drills

The Las Piñas Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), in partnership with the city government, conducted a series of fire drills in major establishments across the city in observance of “Fire Prevention Month.”
Las Piñas City Mayor April Aguilar said the activity was carried out in high-density establishments, including SM Southmall and SM Center Las Piñas.
Aguilar said the initiative aimed to enhance the awareness and preparedness of employees, tenants, and mall-goers by reinforcing proper evacuation procedures and strict adherence to safety protocols. Participants were guided on how to respond calmly and efficiently during emergency situations, particularly in the event of a fire.
Fire personnel, under the leadership of City Fire Marshal Supt. Josephus Alburo, demonstrated the correct use of fire extinguishers, discussed emergency exit plans, and conducted evacuation simulations to ensure that everyone understood their roles and responsibilities.
The mayor said the BFP conducted a large-scale exercise that brought together mall administrators, tenants, employees, and security personnel to test emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
The drill simulated real-life fire scenarios, allowing participants to practice proper evacuation procedures, familiarize themselves with alarm systems, and observe coordinated fire response operations.
Aguilar emphasized that high-density establishments, such as shopping malls, accommodate thousands of visitors daily, making preparedness crucial for preventing panic and minimizing risks during emergencies.
She added that the activity underscored the importance of clear communication, orderly evacuation, and swift action from both building occupants and first responders.
Through this collaborative effort, the BFP and the city government continue to strengthen public readiness and promote a culture of safety among residents and businesses.
The initiative highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation during Fire Prevention Month as the city reaffirms its commitment to protecting lives and property from fire-related incidents.
