Driver loses toe in twin trailer truck collision in Manila
A driver lost one of his toes after the trailer truck he was driving crashed into another trailer truck along the westbound lane of Quirino Avenue near Osmeña Highway in Manila on Wednesday, March 4.
Authorities said both trucks, a 22-wheeler and an 18-wheeler, were loaded with cement but were owned and operated by two different companies. One of the trucks is said to come from Bulacan on its way to Ibaan, Batangas.
According to the passenger of one of the trucks, his driver failed to notice the red light, causing him to crash the vehicle into the other trailer truck coming from the opposite lane of the road.
He added his driver lost one of his toes after being pinned from the wreckage.
He was subsequently extracted by the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is now in stable condition.
The crash caused heavy traffic in the area all the way to Magsaysay Boulevard in España before the two vehicles were eventually moved to the side of the road at around 8 a.m. to alleviate traffic buildup.
