PEOPLE urge the DPWH to hasten the repair of two major roads in Gumaca, Quezon.
GUMACA, Quezon – A group of concerned citizens on Wednesday conducted a rally urging the Department of Public Works and Highways-Quezon 4th District Engineering Office to act on worsening conditions at the bypass road and Maharlika Highway that have caused accidents in this town.
Mark Greg, leader of the Gumaca Concerned Citizens Movement, said that the rally attended by some 200 individuals started from the cathedral and ended at the DPWH-Quezon 4th District Engineering Office.
Mayor Webster Letargo said that every citizen has the right to express their opinions and reminded them to avoiding politicking, grandstanding, and using others for personal gain.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon recently visited the Maharlika Highway in this province and ordered the DPWH regional office to fast-track rehabilitation, particularly the main road in the town proper.
The Gumaca bypass road is a 12.297-kilometer primary road project intended to decongest Daang Maharlika and enhance regional mobility in southern Quezon. It was constructed from 2016 to 2017.
Accidents and reels featuring vehicles having difficulty manuevering on the bypass road have been featured on Facebook and gathered hundreds of comments.
