Quezon City 4th district Rep. Jesus "Bong" Suntay chided netizens on Wednesday, March 4 for branding him as a "DDS" based on his utterances in the House Committee on Justice hearings on Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment case.
Specifically, Suntay called out the netizens for their supposed bias or inconsistency.
The deputy minority leader had been one of--if not the--most consistent and passionate defender of Vice President Duterte in the justice panel hearings, which entered its third straight day Wednesday.
DDS in this context stands for "Duterte Diehard Supporter"--a colloquial phrase coined around a decade ago after the emergence of the Duterte family in national politics.
"Just to be fair, kung mapapansin niyo, madaming nako-comment dahil binibigay ko yung mga observations ko [sa justice committee hearings]. Ano sinasabi? 'Hindi, DDS yan, DDS yan, kaya ganyan ang salita (If you notice, many people comment because I share my observations [during the justice committee hearings]. And what do they say? ‘No, he’s DDS, he’s DDS, that’s why he speaks that way)," Suntay said.
"Bakit? Nung pinagtatanggol ko si Presidente [Marcos] nung impeachment complaint niya at sinasabi ko walang form, insuficient in substance yung complaint filed against him, bakit wala nagsasabi? Hindi, BBM (Bongbong Marcos) yan, BBM yan. Di ba?" he pointed out.
(Why is it that when I defended President Marcos during his impeachment complaint, when I said the complaint had no proper form and was insufficient in substance, no one said, ‘No he’s BBM, he’s BBM. Right?)
It was only last month when the justice committee deliberated on the impeachment complaints filed against President Marcos.
The Batangas 2nd district Rep. Gerville "Jinky Bitrics" Luistro-led panel ended up dismissing these complaints for insufficiency in substance.
Suntay backs VP Duterte's Palace bid
His comments on being branded "DDS" online notwithstanding, Suntay admitted in online interview earleir that same day that he was supporting Vice President Duterte's presidential bid in the 2028 national elections.
"I will support the Vice President dahil wala ako nakikitang ibang kandidato na willing akong suportahan (because I don't see any other candidate that I'm willing to support),” Suntay said in the interview.
“I was congressman during the second half of the term of former president [Rodrigo] Duterte, and I believe that he did a lot for the country,” he said, referring to the Vice President’s father.
