ZAMBOANGA CITY – Government officials in Basilan province have strongly condemned the grenade-throwing incident that injured a laborer near the newly-constructed outlet of a known food chain on Tuesday evening in Lamitan City.
“We strongly condemn the grenade-throwing incident in Barangay Malakas, Lamitan City,” Basilan Gov. Mujiv Hataman said in a statement Wednesday.
“This type of violence has no place in our community, especially as we all strive to maintain peace in our province,” Hataman added.
The police identified the injured as Rebel Masulog, 22, a resident of Cabaluran, Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur.
Jemar Rivera, a security guard, was stunned by the explosion a few meters from his post in the newly constructed building.
Rivera told the police he did not see the suspect who threw the explosive.
Aside from the injured laborer, the newly constructed building of the Jollibee outlet also sustained damage, with broken windows and holes in the concrete wall believed to have been hit by shrapnel.
