ACEN secures clean energy supply deal with DLSU Laguna
ACEN Corp., the listed energy arm of the Ayala Group, has expanded its portfolio of academic partnerships after securing a deal to supply 100 percent renewable energy to the De La Salle University (DLSU) campus in Laguna.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Wednesday, March 4, the company announced that its retail electricity unit, ACEN RES, entered into a supply agreement with DLSU under the government’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).
The mechanism allows the university to source its entire power requirement for the Laguna facility from clean energy sources, marking a significant shift in the institution’s carbon footprint.
The GEOP, a policy initiative spearheaded by the Department of Energy, empowers large power consumers with an average monthly peak demand of at least 100 kilowatts to choose their own renewable energy providers rather than relying on the default distribution utility.
For DLSU, the transition aligns with broader institutional goals to integrate environmental stewardship into its scientific and technological development frameworks.
Sheila Mina, ACEN RES vice president and head of account management, said the collaboration underscores a growing trend among Philippine educational institutions to adopt sustainable energy solutions.
She noted that the partnership demonstrates the practical advantages of the GEOP in accelerating the country’s transition toward a greener grid. The initiative is expected to serve as a catalyst for further environmental programs within the Laguna campus, which serves as a hub for the university’s research and innovation efforts.
Jonathan Dungca, vice president of the DLSU Laguna Campus, described the switch to renewable power as “pivotal step” for the university. He said the move is rooted in the Lasallian tradition of service, specifically by applying knowledge generation toward tangible ecological benefits.
The deal further cements ACEN’s dominant position in the voluntary renewable energy market. According to the latest Competitive Retail Electricity Market report from the Energy Regulatory Commission, ACEN RES currently controls a 57 percent market share within the GEOP segment. This latest agreement adds to a growing roster of academic clients that includes Far Eastern University, San Beda College, and Mapua University.
ACEN continues to aggressively scale its generation capacity, currently managing a portfolio of nearly seven gigawatts of renewable energy projects that are either operational, under construction, or committed. Beyond its home market in the Philippines, the company maintains a significant regional presence with assets in Australia, Vietnam, Laos, and Indonesia.
